The AM&S Generation Hagstrom Guitars... This section was supposed to be purely to provide pictorial representations of the new models. I have gone into a little detail here, for specific reasons on this model, but I have not played the new models yet. There is a dedicated site to visit with much more information. www.hagstromguitars.com VIKING - SWEDE -

DELUXE Using all the iconic elements (head and tailpiece), gave a combined model that replaced the original look. The body appeared too wide, but looking carefully at hi-res pictures I now see the cutaways and some tapered profiling IS there after all. It is the lack of pickguard that confuses the eye... does it still looks a little square though? The HII-N headstock (1975 inset picture) was strangely maligned, and only by a few, it was an important part of the individuality in the original model. This non-tremolo version now sports the Swede and Scandi family stop-tail. The original would be a stock item, current in the market, and in line with the cult demand today. The separate block Hagstrom design arrived with the Patch models, providing string separation required for the synthesiser, hence the perspex plinth etc. I love the look - really, just kinda need to get used to it here. It's value in resonance is minimal in reality. I'm not knocking the idea per-se, just questioning it's use here, "for the sake if it". It would have cost less to bring a truer reissue of the HII than it has to present this version, so why? Probably for brand recognition in today's market? Imagine the dilemma in design. Do we bring everything "together" (a-la 1977) for the whole range? Well, comparing those latter Hagstrom versions and the new incarnation will mean little to a new generation of players. But to re-live (reissue) the youthful 70's, this may be too much a 'mish-mash'. You make your own mind up... Other changes: The on/off switch has gone (useful original feature only let down by the switch itself); The pickup selector switch is in a more 'modern' position, and there is now a single volume and tone dial... very Hag/PRS/whatever eh?

| There's nothing like a REAL original Swedish made Hagstrom (and there are loads around), but if it 'floats your boat', or you can't find an original then who are we to say? | |
