I know
it should be " Flight of the Condor " but this
Racy Red Corvette had to change names in
the USA, and that was the only change. There was NO
LAWSUIT with Gretsch, those nice guys at Hagstrom simply made the
change and carried on calling it Corvette everywhere else around the world.
So in Europe it remained Corvette, the three pickup version of the twin
pickup Impala, many say it is one of the most versatile guitars ever made.
Certainly in the time I've had it, it's become a clear favourite.
Original
Pictures
Made in 1965, then bought second hand in 1969 by a
professional player (Gus) from Germany. There are signs of wear and the odd ding
in places, but it is totally sound and perfect working order. The original shiny
circular "acc" volume control was also supplied, and the original whammy/trem
bar was enclosed.
A Truss Rod cover "Kings Neck Logo" was needed, this has now
been obtained and fitted.
The whole neck has been professionally re-fretted, a new nut fitted, and
most edge marks gently and slowly refinished to maintain originality,
the original second volume control refitted,
so new pictures are shown below...
Long overdue!
We like to play more than trade - so please excuse the 'busy'
looking pictures.

sessions)

The Corvette is well balanced and a superb player, set neck - adjustable from
the head,
and like many Hagstrom guitars - built like a battleship!
At first sight it may look like a through neck (indeed the vintage guitars
articles get it wrong), but
here's the proof - provided by our good friend Anders Karlsson from an Impala
project he worked on:
A description of the controls is shown below these pictures
I wouldn't pretend it's mint...
but it's pretty cool and strong!
Certainly back to most of it's former glory... and better than some
auction-hyped 'legal heros' (Ha Ha!)
There are separate Solo (Lead) and Acc (Rhythm) buttons with
their own volume adjustment!
The Slider Control is the master, the (grey/silver) pot is the ACC VOLUME
(Accompaniment / Rhythm)
Red buttons marked L/M/H (Low Med High)
1/2/3 (Pickups)
27 different Tone effects or combinations they say - that's before you change
anything at the amp!
The design is certainly very different, the playablity is
superb, not too weighty
and the way it is designed you can easily get to any fret right up to number 22
at the end.
Christopher can be seen enjoying this eclectic beauty during
celebrations over the Christmas and new year 2002/3.
A feature on
Hagstrom Canada to celebrate his ninth birthday January 2003!
