SOME PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO CASH IN THE NEW FOR OLD
Some new models being advertised as
vintage is at best
ridiculous mistake, but the
Swede model does look
quite similar at first. It is very different to play, and the pickups
sound very different according to feedback we have. (See the UK forum etc)
It may be an OK guiutar, but it is not an original
Swedish made guitar of
course!
Please don't get ripped off by unscrupulous (or just maybe..) those that know no
better.
Early Swede models with standard design stop tail
had a single strap nut at the base, but this later version had
two...
The original Swede uses a tail finished bright as chrome, the metal
has tarnished very quickly on the new one above...
Original screws and bolts are more discrete than the large headed ones
used on the new pickguard
The truss rod rod cover does not say "Swede" in an 'Epiphone-ish' block print. It is blank on the original Swede.
There were indeed variations of the real, old Hagstrom Swede
models between 1971 and 1982
- see below for links to try and help you not get ripped off like the poor soul above
The original SuperSwede is a bit
easier to identify, it has a sharp lower horn, the pickguards were not white or
cream,
they were fitted almost flat to the body to allow good clearance to the coil tap
swich.
There was a ZERO FRET for stunning sustain, and they sound powerful, wide and
very versatile.
The Viking - is very different to
the original - sound, feel, shape, finish, but the tailpiece says "Sweden
Design"
of course originally it said "Made in Sweden"
(I have to say, as I've been informed, that the new production
is very good value and sells well)
There are certainly more around than buyers looking on eBay.
The same does not apply to the originals.

The original SWEDE comes with a BLACK CASE - mind
you the new TKL Chinese cases look very nice...

It may well be worth buying a new case if you can't get
an old one for your original Swede!
... but getting one outside USA
is expensive or impossible
